The NaPoWriMo Prompt: Today, let’s try writing triolets. A triolet is an eight-line poem. All the lines are in iambic tetrameter (for a total of eight syllables per line), and the first, fourth, and seventh lines are identical, as are the second and final lines. This means that the poem begins and ends with the same couplet. Beyond this, there is a tight rhyme scheme (helped along by the repetition of lines) — ABaAabAB.
I cannot do this type of rhyme;
It is without the slightest sense,
And, even if I take my time,
I cannot! Do this type of rhyme,
And you’d commit an utter crime!
So I must say in my defence
I cannot do this type of rhyme –
It is without the slightest sense!
It seems to be such laziness
Repeating in this kind of way,
And might drive you to craziness,
It seems to be! Such laziness
Must give the meaning haziness
By having same lines on display;
It seems to be such laziness
Repeating in this kind of way!
(Actually, it is $@&#$& difficult! Maybe I need toilet … er, triolet … training!)

That’s a really funny awful rhyme, Col. Who was it who said, “The more you repeat something, the more it sounds like a lie. ” 😕

I would find it too tiring to find so many words that rhyme for this kind of poem.
Well done, Col.

Weirdly enough, there are only three rhyming words one has to find – the rest is repetition.

A laudable effort . . . for a rather repetitive sedative. 😀

Repetitive indeed! It is ridiculous how tricky it is when one considers that by writing two lines, three-quarters of it has been done.

Yep I am intimidated by this form of poetry for sure!
But you did an awesome job! =]
I always love reading your work!
It would be a crime if I attempted this though, and i don’t think it would make much sense either haha!

The more formally structured a poem is, the more difficult it becomes to write.
Thanks!
*shock* Poems have to make sense? 🙂

Well, it looks like you and I took the same approach and used humor! In spite of the difficulty, this was fun!

I’ve never heard of a triolet, and do not think I’ll be trying one anytime soon.

It looks easy – until one tries it!

Don’t think I’ve not been reading all your offerings . . . but poetry has little appeal for me, no matter how beautiful people say it is.
That said, you do make it entertaining . . . but not so much that I check if your are following your toilet rules.

An old man hears rhyme.
The words flow from line to line;
they are not sublime.
