This morning saw some sorry scenes
Which truly made me curse and swear,
Gale blew our fence to smithereens,
And bits of tree were everywhere.
The signboard, hung outside the gate,
Was clearly hanging out no more,
But grounded was its sorry state:
Not swinging, as it was before.
I laboured wildly with some nails,
And hammed a great deal with my hammer –
(I don’t know why that statement fails,
For one has rammed, when using rammer!)
The slats have now all been repaired
As devastated by the weather,
And so the neighbours will be spared
Sight of me in the altogether.
For ‘tis my custom every day
To wake with plunge into the pool –
The family’s inclined to say
That on cold days I am a fool!
I must admit, today I found
The water quite distinctly chilly –
Indeed, I nearly came around
To thinking I was being silly!

Great poem.
Shame about the fence, you are well within your rights to curse
