kalinka has a challenge to do a bit on ‘almost’.
Here’s one that will resonate with her.
Almost ready was my book –
Thought I’d take another look:
Stacks of things not ringing true,
So, of course, had to re-do.
Now I had it perfectly;
Off to print a proof went we;
Reading this too much a squeeze
‘Fore I left for overseas.
Proofread there; it took quite long;
STILL a lot of it was wrong;
Then first file of fixes failed –
‘Different version,’ SA wailed.
Did conversion, sent again,
Thought the sailing was now plain –
How on earth was I to know
This transmission was no-show?
Rectified upon return;
Now for further proof I yearn,
But it’s caught up in the crush
Of the printers’ Xmas rush!
So it is, I greatly fear
It won’t happen in this year –
‘Almost’, if you choose to write,
Mostly ends up, ‘But not quite’!

Many a slip, Col. It will be the perfect New Year pick-me-up.

I would have preferred to have been without the current petticoat! After all, it is late spring here!

Oh, what a shame, Col, I’m so sorry.

It did give me the perfect subject for the challenge, though!
