MARRYING NUMBERS



A sorry tale I must relate
Of numbers going on a date
Who have a disappointing fate:
For ONE and TWO are all will pair
With all the others standing there,
(10 12 14 15 16 17 18 19
20 21 24 25 26 27 28 29)
The rest of them are simply spare! 

THREE pairs with NAUGHT and ONE, ‘tis true,
(30   31   13)
And it can also match with TWO;
(23)
The rest it simply cannot do!
Though ONE and ONE, just let me say –
(11)
And TWO and TWO too, on their day –
(22)
Will pair up in a way that’s gay! 

But FOUR to NINE, as it would seem,
Can’t take the lead in number team
Or they must leave the dating stream!
It’s sad if one considers when
With numbers, too, nine out of ten
Will live their lives out single, then!
