MAYBE RABBITS WITH A REALLY AWFUL RHYME?

Crack of dawn did I awaken
For I was severely shaken;
Thumped on back as well, I fear,
And had ‘Rabbits’ yelled in ear;
(Now, of course, what I must do
Is shout ‘Rabbits’ out to you;
It will give my day a lift
If you all owe me a gift!)

Motive for thus being mauled
Is that I was rudely called
In as witness to her pleasure
In unwrapping some more treasure.
Just because of turning four,
Gifts this kid got, by the score!

Hope you have a happy day,
And, indeed, a lovely May;
May, in it, you have no need
To yell, ‘MAYDAY!’ out, indeed!
Or to give an S O S,
Which the same thing is, I guess.

Funny, when about to drench
Like Titanic, one yells French:
‘M’aidez’, though, is rather mild:
‘French’ I’d utter, lots more wild –
When in peril on the sea,
I can curse quite fluently.

  1. Love the rabbits, love the footwear, and my journey through the blogosphere simply wouldn’t be the same without those characteristic colonialist rhymes…

    Happy birthday! You had me going with the Rabbits. Here’s why. (Yes, I’ll pre-confess. I’m weird weird weird.) My grandmother was convinced that for good luck, you should say “rabbit rabbit rabbit” first thing in the morning on the first day of every month for good luck. Presumably, this was some bizarre replacement for carrying a rabbit’s foot among my ancestors. But we still do it, and this morning, as my husband and I yawned over school lunches and small people who needed backpacks, he asked, “Have you said Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit today?” and I said it right then, because I’m jussst strange enough to go along with the absurd superstition..
