–
I’ve just watched a movie wot gave us a thrill,
It was quite remarkably inter-lek-chill,
Our TV decoder has packed in, you see,
And thus we were watching an old DVD.
In this, Julie Andrews appeared as the lead,
And her Mary Poppins was lovely, indeed!
Rhiannon has packed all her clothes and her toys,
And all of the games which she really enjoys.
Then grabbed an umbrella which she hopes to fly –
And that the thing should not, I do not know why –
It takes Mary P most magnificently,
So why should it be it will not her and me?
We gave it a try-out, right at the front door,
But, sadly, this brolly won’t fly any more;
Said R, ‘Take it down and we’ll give it a rest;
To try again later is probably best!’
So if, perchance, I disappear from the scene,
Be sure that my absence will most likely mean
That, with my granddaughter, I’ve floated away
Beneath an umbrella, for quite a long stay!
P.S. Her granny was in fits of laughter at the piles of belongings that had been gathered ready for the trip. I told R an umbrella probably wouldn’t lift them all, so she suggested we go by car instead.
She and I went to the beach today – the first time for ages that the path has been in a fit state to allow her access. I am glad I have been restored to full jungle-hacking condition. I have yet to take her sister down, though.

She did enjoy it, indeed, particularly as she met a friend from school there.

Also, I just stopped by to congratulate you. You won an Honorable Mention in last week’s Limerick-Off. Great job! Limerick of the Week 60

Oh, thanks! Great news! I love scribbling limericks, and ran a contest of my own on my other blog for a while, called ‘Limeric-king’.

I have a very odd memory of going to the theater to see “Mary Poppins.” It is one I might share later, but your terrific post brought it to my mind – so thank you.
I would give just about anything to have seen you and R trying to be airborne! I would certainly have done my best to help (I’ve always been known as a blow-hard!). Maybe my presence would have provided that extra “lift” you needed. We’ll never know, I guess, but I think the suggestion of a car sounds safer anyway. You never know what kind of downdrafts there are to be had.

Good – I will keep an eye open!
You would have seen me jumping up and down quite a bit, declaring, ‘Trying to take off, see? – maybe another try!’

When I was young I thought the rooftop scene went on for too long, and I still do, though!
Haha! I would hope Elder Granddaughter gets through college and university before she makes me a great graddad!

“I know a man with a wooden leg called Smith”
“What was his other leg called?”
One of the classic one-liners of all time. And I laugh myself stupid whenever I watch that scene.
Pleased to see you have learned all your ABC’s 😉

Yes, with the old geezer rising into the air as he laughs himself to death at it.
I have always considered ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ a stroke of genius. To have a nonsense word of that length which is so easily remembered took real talent!

Too true. And it entered our culture so easily.
