A MOST AMUSING DAY

It has been another of those days when so many things conspire to irritate that it becomes downright funny.

As you will note, the promised post, which is about a literary event, is still not posted. Several hours of effort in trying to get cellphone and computer to chat to one another came to naught. In fact, with the number of different things I tried – new passwords, and reinstallations and you-name-it – the mess may now be beyond unscrambling. If only I had used my proper camera, as usual! I hate Nokia. Samsung etc are so much easier.  You plug them in, and the interface pops up.

Then the speakers on my computer stopped working when I wanted to test some music. They worked fine on the notebook, though. After that the printer went on strike. Out of ink.

Yesterday I discovered that little R had not closed the passenger door properly before I put the car in the garage, and the battery had run flat. I put it on charge. Today, when I tried to fetch R from school in Much Better Half’s car, that battery was flat, too. Utterly. Reason unknown. R had to be collected by Sister-in-Law.

Both batteries may have had it. It seems that the average life of one is now only a couple of years. In the good old days they would last for ten or more. That’s progress – or is it greed?

Then, when I tried to check on the charging progress in the garage, the lock had jammed and I couldn’t get in. I used the other door to enter, and un-jammed the lock from inside. I locked the other door again, and tried to lock the jamming door. It still wasn’t behaving correctly, so I went back inside (through it) to check what was happening, and locked it from inside. It refused to open again. Now, of course, I was locked in. We do have keys for that contingency, somewhere … but not that I could find.

I escaped, finally, by using a hammer and saw and a great deal of force. Instead of accompanying that with foul language, I giggled. I mean, it was all so ludicrous!

On the way back to the house I discovered a large bit of poop I had missed when de-pooping the lawn. On my shoe, of course.  While scraping it off I noted sadly that the pool is resembling pea potage. That is a battle for another day.

This evening I fired up the computer for another session – and the main switch tripped. Probably some damp somewhere. I had to re-fire from scratch.

Oh, the speaker story turned out to be that the setting had somehow got onto two-channel instead of four. After that discovery I successfully got R’s kiddie computer back into action as an encore, so the day was not all disaster.

Yikes! Sounds like you had an army of gremlins (hamsters oozing scaliness?) conspiring against you. Want me to set their nest on fire?

A horrid day. About 5 or 6 years ago I was stuck with a flat battery and the mechanic got a SABAT battery and put that in my car it was a small black and orange plastic little thing and I was so disgusted that he put that thing in my car. I swallow my words because if I remember correctly it lasted me longer than 5 years and packed up about a month ago when it finaly gave up and winter took its toll on it.

I am claustrophobic if I locked myself in the garage I would panic big time.

At least you saw the humour in the antics of the fickle finger of fate. As for modern car batteries take it four and half a rears and you are in for a new one. Hope today will pass smoothly.
