Sunday Safari 2

Tall stories:

 The safari was at nearby Tala Game Reserve, and we set out to arrive at about 09h00.  We don’t go that often, and it so happens that last time Younger Daughter, Sn-i-L and the grandgirls went we did not accompany them.  They related, however, that a school friend from young R’s school – who lives just down the road – had also been there, and remarked on the coincidence.

  On this occasion it had been arranged to meet the parents and grandparents of a friend young R had met through swimming, so we had her playmate laid on.  The two shared the closed-in back of the van we were in, but instead of looking at the animals we found they had opened the cool-box and had started on the picnic, merrily spilling orange juice, and scattering chips, bits of biscuits and cakes and sundry other foodstuffs, all over the rugs and cushions at the back.  They were swiftly separated and only reunited when we stopped sightseeing in order to picnic near this pool.

 

 Would you believe it: the pair turned into a threesome!  When we got there, it was to find that another friend from R’s class at playschool was also there with her parents.  The first time was surprising enough, given the relatively small number of local residents who like that sort of scene, the numbers of places available to go to on a Sunday, and the number of days on which such trips could take place.  That it should happen twice in a row will no doubt be considered a tall story indeed!

The next tall story concerns creatures which always look down on mere humans, with the expressions of tolerant disdain so peculiarly theirs.  After driving for a while, we were thrilled to get some distant sightings of giraffe, and snapped away gleefully – see another sample with previous Safari post.  Then we rounded a bend, and found this high and mighty specimen right next to the road!
