REALLY AWFUL SONNET TO AN EASTER BONNET

HAPPY EASTER, EVERYONE!

(If you don’t do Easter, have a happy one anyway.)

Easter Bonnet

A Younger Daughter design and construction for young R’s Easter Parade.

My Easter message:

By a failure, do not be appalled,
Have ever you heard of a song that was called:
‘Smile and Show Your Dimple’?
No? Reason for that’s simple:
It bombed, and was abandoned by one Irving Berlin,
But, when he revived it,
This time, it sure survived; it
As ‘Easter Bonnet’ simply couldn’t help but to win!

Easter Parade

 In your Easter bonnet with all the frills upon it,
You’ll be the grandest lady in the Easter Parade.
I’ll be all in clover, and when they look you over
I’ll be the proudest fellow in the Easter Parade.

On the Avenue, Fifth Avenue,
The photographers will snap us
And you’ll find that you’re in the rotogravure.
Oh, I could write a sonnet about your Easter bonnet
And of the girl I’m taking to the Easter Parade.

(Repeat of 2nd verse.)

Well, I did write a sonnet about young R’s bonnet of the 2011 Easter Parade.  I based it on this little number:

William Shakespeare:

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?

Thou art more lovely and more temperate.

Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,

And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.

Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,

And often is his gold complexion dimmed;

And every fair from fair sometime declines,

By chance, or nature’s changing course, untrimmed;

But thy eternal summer shall not fade,

Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st,

Nor shall death brag thou wand’rest in his shade,

When in eternal lines to Time thou grow’st.

So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,

So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

 Colonialist’s 2011 version, but now adapted to fit the latest 2013 bonnet:

 Easter Bonnet 2

Shall I compare thee to a Summer’s day?
Thou art more sunny and fantastical.
Rough hands will grab these darling eggs as may,
They stay a-head with bands elastical;
Sometimes too bright the colours here may shine,
And often other hats may thus be dimmed,
And ears may downward droopingly decline
Unless with cunning ribbons they are trimmed:
But thy eternal Easter shall not fade
Nor be forgotten in some future days,
For pictures show what with such care was made,
Superior in oh, so many ways.
So long as a computer one may see
So long lives this, for this gives life to thee..
