REALLY AWFULLY HASTY DIARY ENTRY

Today began with effecting a sale,
(Not something about which I’m likely to wail),
And then went on with us getting set
For overseas visitor we were to get;
Then collection of R from her little school
And taking her off to Olympic Pool,
Where she and I had yet another swim
Of four hundred metres to keep her in trim;
Then not very long after lunch had been et,
We set off to airport our vis’tor to get,
Going early to miss, on that terrible road,
The rush-hour traffic’s impossible load;
Killed time eating ice-cream til cousin arrived;
We loaded her luggage and homeward I drived,
(I know it is ‘drove’ but the rhyme wouldn’t fit,
So I hope that you don’t mind me cheating a bit)
And then it was time for a lot of chit-chat:
It didn’t give much time for rhyme-writing, that!

    But had you used “Till cousin arrove”
    You could have kept the language pure by saying “you drove”.

    Wiktionary.
    English:
    Verb:
    arrove
    1. (nonstandard) simple past tense of arrive.

  6. I’m glad you included the reason for utilizing “drived” for rhyming purposes. It’s not often one reads poetry that has such helpful annotations! Sounds like a full day! 🙂
