WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE: THE SIGN SAYS – Take 2: A Ship, a Bell, and an Avenue

In the previous post I conjectured that UK is better than South Africa at informative signs.  After a visit to KZN National Botanical Garden in Pietermaritzburg today, I am not as sure.

The trip was fraught with peril caused by the up-run of the Comrades Marathon, which involved little details like a 15-Km traffic jam …  However.  More about that and related matters later, mayhap.  Meanwhile, back to the plane (tree) matter of the avenue, the ship, and the bell.

    Very nice Bell Col !!
And very inspirering history. World War 2 !!

Nice pics by the way 🙂

  3. Interesting. I wouldn’t think WWII and an avenue had a bell in common. That header for the sign made me want to read it and I am not one to read long historical signs!

  4. Nice pics, Col. I love the bell!

  5. adinparadise says:

Now there’s an interesting piece of history, Col. 🙂 Lovely name for a ship. I’m glad I’m not a sailor. The bell ringing every half hour would drive me nuts.

  6. optie says:

Very interesting Col, isn’t history fascinating. Glad the bell has a new home and its history has been preserved.

  7. SidevieW says:

good signs here, but many ither places have few or bad signs

  8. SuziCate says:

…and how many visitors can resist ringing the bell?!

  9. Sonel says:

Lovely entry for the challenge Col! Love that bell! Thanks for sharing. 🙂 *hugs*

  10. nrhatch says:

Informative sign. Love the name of the ship ~ Lady Enchantress.

    Oops . . . time for tea. 😉

I’m not so sure whether the ‘Lady’ part isn’t a spot tautological. I love the ‘HMS Enchantress’.
Silly of them to give up that bell custom – I wonder why? Stupid neighbours?

  11. Enchantress – now that’s a great name for a ship (and what a beautiful bell it is)

  12. 68ghia says:

I would just love a lane like that…
    Good sign Col 😉
