One of my endearing habits
Every month, upon the first,
Is the yelling out of
‘Rabbits!’
Though I do get roundly cursed!
Second half of year, I spy now,
Has already come our way,
For it really is
July, now!
‘I don’t lie; it‘s true I say!’

Where does the time go, Col? July already.
Rabbits: they graze on the sides of the drive of my mansion as I drive into work. They don’t seem at all bothered by me….

I love seeing them round the copse where Elder Daughter and family have their cottage. The hares, too. They can be real clowns.

Some other bloggers, well-known to you, also have July birthdays! Mimmo’s seems a long time ago now.
One half of the year gone, one half to go. Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun 😉

I’ve never learned the significance of shouting “rabbits” on the first of the month – explanation please Col

It is a silly old custom/superstition with a number of variations on how it is done and why. Some say, ‘Rabbit, rabbit,’ or ‘White rabbit/s’. Benefits are said to range from bringing good luck to warding off nasty things. Various theories are given for the origin.
The version we use is that everyone you have said, ‘Rabbits!’ to on the first, before they say it to you and before midday, owes you a gift!

I think it is more a UK thing.

It sounds like it’s spreading to the US . . . in New England (and Nickelodean land). Sounds like a FUN thing to do, especially with kids in the house.

Interesting!
It is fun, indeed, and leads to more animals in our household at least. My response when ‘Rabbitted’ is generally, ‘Oh, RATS!’

What type of present do you have to buy for the granddaughters when you get Rabbitted?

I am re-using the school ones I snapped recently. Actually I meant to get a shot of the latest batch of young ones there for the purpose, but forgot!

It’s only since starting blogging that I knew anything of the rabbit shouting bit and, even now, I always forget. Yippee, July, my favourite month. It’s my birthday month (yes, I take the whole month as mine!)
