Really awfully proud.

My granddaughter the eldest
Did ‘A Levels’ this year,
That she would not do well – best! –
We’d not the slightest fear. 

Until she got ambitious,
In taking courses on,
And made us superstitious
Too many would mean none. 

Just three would be required,
And four might well be had,
But what she to aspired
Was five – she went quite mad! 

On top of that, another
Two challenges she took –
One always would discover
Her buried in a book. 

Results came out this morning:
The phone rang straight away,
And I got up, still yawning,
To hear what they would say. 

She was en route to TV
And interviews with press;
Which meant good news that we’d see?
The answer was a ‘Yes!’

Choice of university
Was now achieved to be;
‘A-star’ and two ‘A’s their plea –
And, ‘A-stars’ … she had three! 

Three more ‘A’s she also got,
But then Philosophy
Brought her down an awful lot –
She only got a ‘B’! 

Though Oxford was the one she
Had thought she would adore,
Degree won’t there be done, see –
For she likes Durham more. 

(Her verbose FB announcement: ‘English at Durham. If you care – History A*, English A, Latin A, Philosophy B, EPQ A*, Critical Thinking A*, General Studies A.  I’m a happy thing.’)
