Really Awfully Boring

Do you like getting to the bottom of things?  Or are you sometimes over the top in wanting to know what you’re over the top of?  Where would the light at the other end of your tunnel come from?  Do you ever wonder what on earth is on the other side?

No, I’m not being philosophical.  I have merely made the interesting discovery that Down Under, as far as residents of the UK are concerned, is actually a large stretch of splash somewhere well southeast of New Zealand.  Australia’s Up Over, on the other hand, is a splosh slap in the middle of the North Atlantic.

In fact, if you bore straight through the earth from any number of locations, you are more likely than not to find yourself in one or another ocean.  Far South America does have Asia as a destination, but that is one of the exceptions.

Here is the link to the fascinating livephysics Google Earth-type site which enables you to pop through the earth from any location to the directly opposite side.  Have fun with it.  I did!                                                                                                                                               © Colonialist August 2013 (WordPress)

  1. For some reason, it took forever (longer than 3 minutes) and the globe still hadn’t loaded. I’m curious, but, heck, I can’t wait forever! I’d probably get stuck in the darned tunnel anyway! 😉

    Haha! Very boring.

I landed in the Indian Ocean and immediately started swimming for your shoreline. Then one of your whales swallowed me whole and spit me out onto Madagascar. I’m hanging about with King Julius.

Whahahaha! Now that was lots of fun Col! I have to remember then to get diving suits because we will end up near Hawaii in the North Pacific Ocean..hehehehe, but I must say, I like the idea of Hawaii being close. Must be because I always wanted to go there. Now I am going to dig more holes and see if I start on another place here in Harties, I might just end up in Hawaii totally! LOL!
Thanks for sharing my friend. 😀 *big hugs*

Thanks for the link! If I dig from Toti I’d end up in the Pacific between San Francisco and Hawaii.
If I dig from my town in Holland I’d end up just south of New Zealand, also in the water!

  12. I tried, but couldn’t make it work. Start digging from NW France brought me to the Norwegian Sea every time, so I must have hit an undiggable bit of rock somewhere.
