Really Awfully Ambiguous – you cannot rate this too highly!

‘Am-big-u-ous’ as theme we find
From SidevieW now to deal,
And what the word does bring to mind,
South Africans to feel,
Is statement to a group of those
To say that one has size
(That ‘fellows’ is expressed as ‘ous’
Should come as no surprise).

Of course, I cannot be inclined
To ambiguity
No double meaning none can find
In nothing that’s from me
Such only never it may place
Which usually might
Not offering it left this trace
Through missing things not right.

And nothing pleases me much more
Than that you criticise
That what’s to come has gone before,
Or truthfulness denies;
For nothing, in the simple sense
Of meaning of the word,
Provided the desired tense,
And greatly is preferred.

  1. I do love the literal interpretation… 🙂

  2. The Asian says:

I remember our Gr 7 teacher clearly explaining how not to be so ambiguous. She would throw a fit if we had a sentence like that in an essay

  3. Harsh for the dog – but understandable

  4. Sonel says:

Life is full of awful ambiguities, Col! Even when we try to say what we mean, we don’t always mean what we say.

  11. It seems you’re not averse to verse,
    Even though it is perverse.
Which brings to mind another line,
To herald from these fair shores,
If size doesn’t matter, then why the chatter,
    About ,Ah beg your’s?

Another perfect example why I do not write po er tree.

  12. calmgrove says:

Reminds me of this classic comedy exchange:

    Take this hammer.
    — Yes.
    — You see that nail?
    — Well, when I nod my head, hit it.
    — Hit it?
    — That’s what I said!
    — OK …

    You can guess the rest.

  13. Pussycat44 says:

And in Nederland people shoot stray cats! Shocking.

  14. frizztext says:

You have the right to remain silent - but please don't!
