Children’s writer Susanna Leonard Hill is running ‘The 3rd Annual HALLOWEENSIE CONTEST‘, and Nancy Hatch suggested I should join her in going for it:
‘The Contest: write a 100 word Halloween story appropriate for children (title not included in the 100 words), using the words spooky, black cat, and cackle.’
I have done two versions, both with the same wording, but the second one has some bells and whistles added for entertainment.
Plain:
Witch Wotchett taught her black cat Spooky to cackle like her. Then a spell went wrong and she got ‘disappeared’. Poor Spooky became homeless.
Meow-cackles were fun over Halloween. Spooky would sneak from his alleys looking for kids to frighten. Jumping out with eyes glowing greenly, he’d go, ‘Meow-ack-cack-cackle!’
The kids would take off, yelling, ‘Eeeeeeeeek!’
Then a little girl named Debbie wouldn’t be frightened. ‘Cute! Let’s team up!’ she said. ‘We’ll scare everyone.’
They did!
At bedtime, Debbie begged, ‘Please come and live with me?’
Afterwards, she’d only let Spooky cackle at Halloween, but he thought it worth it.
~~~
Fancy.
I love the name “witch Wotchett”. . . Clever! And you were able to fit all the words in your title.;-}
Cool story. Loved the bells and whistles version especially.
The problem with that version is that it does cheat by having extra words in captions!
