THE UGLY BUNNY
(or Hare Today and Gone Tomorrow)
There once was a rabbit
Who had a bad habit
Of driving his parents insane;
Behaving most funnily,
And very un-bunnily,
He was quite a bit of a pain!
When told to hip-hop
He would come to a stop,
Then dash off along a straight line;
His ears wouldn’t flop right,
Nor lolloping lop right;
His squeak was a bit of a whine.
His looks were peculiar,
And wouldn’t quite fool yer,
To thinking him of rabbit ilk,
His coat was all grey,
In a drab sort of way,
Instead of all fluffy and silk.
So, treated quite badly,
He sat and moped sadly,
Till one day a hare hop-pened by –
Said: ‘What have we there?
What a handsome young hare …
My son!’ with a tear in his eye.
Hare junior, that day,
With his dad went away,
And his mom was then left to explain
To a furious buck
How she’d had a quick … bit of luck
One dark night, with a hare as her swain.

He wasn’t a bunny –
he was really a honey,
and that was quite funny.
Tut tut for expletive deleted.

Apart from the witty repartee, or do I mean harey repartee, I loved the Durer painting – utterly exquisite….

It was between that and the ‘Alice’ illustration. The Durer won.

As long as it isn’t hare-esy! That would keep you from going to Hare-ven!

Somebody always lives unhappily after, but the tales don’t usually mention that!
