I lost a blogging term so that
I could replace a thermostat –
The iceberg in our fridge, I think,
Was what had made Titanic sink.

For self-defrost had given in,
Allowing icing-up to win;
Technicians charge arm and a leg,
So I determined not to beg
One such to come, and me to rob,
In charges for this little job …
But bad enough, right at the start,
Two-hundred-twenty for the part!

And just to find it, had to ride
To parts of city far and wide –
It matched the
 bit I’d taken out,
And was the right one, I’d no doubt,
Though fitting had me in despair –
For wires wandered everwhere –
And vital bits kept getting lost,
Which lots of time, in searching, cost.

I switched it on, and uttered pleas
That it would forthwith start to freeze –
It did, and I burst out in song
As writer, I could right such wrong!

  1. Clever you, Col. It’s always most satisfying to get something fixed without paying out the extortionate fee charged by the so-called professionals. Have a choc ice to celebrate. 🙂

  2. adeeyoyo says:

I love the poem and am so pleased that you managed to succeed! Call-out fees are ridiculously high now.

  3. huntmode says:

I have none of the poetic talents displayed here, but I so enjoyed your doityourselfry and that you were successful, and the pingpong game between you and misswhiplash!

  4. Good do-it-yourselfery. The poem as well as the fridge!

  5. nrhatch says:

You’re a handy man to have around ~ let’s just hope those wires are grounded so your deep freeze doesn’t start a fire.

  6. disperser says:

That was cool, and now it’s cool again . . .

  7. Now you can add another skill to the list 🙂

  8. kragenhai says:

See! It is easy if you don’t know how!
    Keep cool!

  9. misswhiplash says:

What a clever chap you be
you saved yourself the cost of fee
and mended fridge so it could freeze
not too hard, it was a breeze
just a thought or two it took
and all done without a book
