Cee’s Black and White Challenge: Pets; and Michelle’s Weekly Pet Challenge – Minky and Mutts

As usual, my photography isn’t too good, but hopefully the subjects make up for it.

Minky

Minky posing for portrait.

Minky is a wild monkey and part of one of our local troops, but the way he interacts with us and with the dogs on his frequent visits, he can be regarded as an honorary pet.  These were taken this afternoon.

I keep missing capturing the moment Minky actually pats Gemma.  It is always a fleeting thing.  One of these days I’ll get the timing right!

  3. Toby is adorable. You manage to capture expressions ( and great texture contrast). Pets/animals are so difficult to snap shots of.

Difficult, indeed. I was hoping for shots of the dogs in greater proximity to Minky and friends, but that was the best they would give me. Of course, as soon as the camera had been put away …

Minky is just adorable Col. They are such a treat and here they also love to pet Simba. He does the same as Gemma of course. LOL! Great post. 😀

Isn’t it amazing that they have these dog-petting inclinations? We should compete as to who gets the Magic Moment picture first!

        Totally adorable. 😀
LOL! I am sure you will win then because with the little baby here I don’t allow Simba to go out. The little one is very curious and the mom might just attack Simba is he goes to him. 😉

  7. Oooh, keep trying, Col: I’d love to see a picture of Minky doing the honours! But that said, I think the photos you have taken are great. The expressions on the dogs’ faces are priceless. I think monochrome is a good choice too.

I would love to capture that moment. Gemma always looks rather startled. She doesn’t know quite what to make of it – although, with her, any petting is fine. She can’t get enough.

  9. Now how could I resist monkey shots?! And dogs too. Perfect combination. Snowy and I went out yesterday afternoon and came upon a monkey sitting on a garden wall in Main Street. Monkey looked at Snowy, Snowy looked at monkey and then decided to bark. Monkey promptly shot up a lampost, sat on the top shaking it (!!) and then cleared off up a tree. I can’t imagine your scenario with dogs ignoring monkeys.

Dogs barking at monkeys and monkeys shooting up trees is normal. Nothing much here is normal. We have had cigarette-mooching mongooses, toe-pecking mynahs, cat goatherds, roof-climbing wolfhounds, a houdini horse with cat companion, a Siamese who loved bringing gifts of snakes in full working order, another who loved chasing or riding dogs and another who opened doors …
      you get the picture.
