Over the past week I have had lots of desire to blog, even though, in quick succession, both my regular cameras have terminally joined the non-clicking-clique (and my printer has decided it doesn’t feel like printing any more) not to mention that my outdated and much-loved XP is hanging horribly and blue-screening me every now and again.
Every time I start to blog, though, I find myself getting side-tracked back to THE NOVEL. I keep wanting to know what is going to happen next, and the only way to discover that is to write it. Thus, my output for the past week has been 16104 words, plus for today 2522. It is now sitting on 104529 words, and it still seems to have quite a way to go. Every time the &^$%^$ thing resolves one aspect, it creates more problems for itself and the unfortunate protagonists.
In another bit of fun today, a young guest for lunch tried to go through the big sliding door facing onto the sea without opening it first. The attempt was successful, and meant that after that any one could do it without any bump first. Now a full gale has come up …
The shattered remains are propped up with a chair.
P.S Oh, and the mongoosickles are back for another maternity session …
And J is no longer a toddler.
Oh dear, I hope nobody got hurt!
J has such cute expressions 😉

Pity all things technical wear out, Col. Or not, but are overtaken by new, improved… I have the idea hat nothing is made to last – method in their madness, lol! Still, the novel seems to have a life of its own and going from strength to length.
Years ago, when staying with doggie people in Pretoria for some shows, my dog managed to break their sliding glass door with his nose. (Which is the foremost part of a walking dog.) They refused compensation, being only too pleased that it had happened with a dog and not their little toddling grandchild. Whew!

Well, that’s one way of looking at it! One just never nose … 🙂

Perhaps the camera and XP and the printer is the universe encouraging you to keep writing that novel!! It is cancelling out most distractions for you! Well except for the crash of class and the skip of your heart that whoever was okay!

I can’t believe that with all the damage only minor bruises ensued.
The encouragement is doing a good job – I am already beyond the length of many novels.

oh that must be so exciting

It is – but then one starts worrying that one may need to prune a lot. Straying away from the main thrust only works if it is exceptionally entertaining.

Oh dear, I do hope that your young ‘sliding door crasher’ wasn’t badly hurt. 😦 Well done with your impressive word count, Col. 🙂

She’s all grown up. WOW! And you shouldn’t complain about not having the time to blog – for selfish reasons, I want to read that novel you’ve been writing!

She is certainly maturing by leaps and bounds.
You can have a sample of the first seven chapters from links on the sidebar – now there are 31 more of them!

Going to check them out now!

From what I’ve read online WindowsXP will be obsolete from April.
Well done on that great number of words. Your imagination is running riot it seems.
I had a similar encounter with a glass sliding door, but didn’t break it.
Say hi to the mongoose and J looks very mischievous!

That’s what worries me.

Why are we always so surprised when they grow and mature like this?

Sometimes, blogging needs to take a back seat to the novel. 🙂 I do it pretty often.

Agreed, and I have felt this is one of those times.

I have both a printer and a story like yours.. wifi printer likes to go through the motions but nothing ever appears, and my story, which started off as Nano is now on 80,000 and each development brings another to light. I am messing with lots of little ones instead.

As I realised, an unfinished novel is an exercise in futility. One does need to press on regardless! That is too much work to abandon, and only when the last word has been put in does one have the measure of what one has created.

Was there blood? Huge statistics! Congratulations.

Les, I’m looking for a 13th birthday present for a very horsey girl who is not much into reading. Do you think Regina would grab her attention? I can get it from Amazon, but wondered if Regina 2 was a sequel, though it doesn’t appear to be.

Regina definitely features horses – almost all of my novels feature riding in one way or another!. The so-called Regina 2 is simply a more recent edition which gives a few improvements.
That is the age at which one horsey girl, whose home language isn’t even English, was inspired to say that it was her ‘best book ever’. To say I was chuffed would be an understatement.
