As a public service, I thought it would be a good idea to update soppy songs like the following one, to bring them more in tune with modern times:
Stranglers in the night
Look for a victim
Lurking out of sight
And now they’ve picked ‘em
Wanting a good choke
Before the night was through
Something in that throat
Was so inviting
Something in that neck
Was so exciting
Something one could squeeze
Until they’re turning blue
Stranglers in the night, two lonely people
Separate stranglers in the night
Up to the moment when
We said our first hello
Little did we know
Murder just a glance away
A throat-embracing dance away
And ever since that night we’ve been together
Partners at first sight, to kill forever
It turned out so right
For stranglers in the night
Isn’t that so much better than the boring one sung by Frank Sinatra? :-
Strangers in the night
Exchanging glances
Wondering in the night
What were the chances
We’d be sharing love
Before the night was through
Something in your eyes
was so inviting
Something in your smile
was so exciting
Something in my heart
Told me I must have you
Strangers in the night, two lonely people
We were strangers in the night
Up to the moment when
We said our first hello
Little did we know
Love was just a glance away
A warm embracing dance away
And ever since that night we’ve been together
Lovers at first sight, in love forever
It turned out so right
For strangers in the night

How can you say I’m wicked if my posts are so touching they get you all choked up? 🙂

hahaha 😆 Weird Al Yankovic might offer you a job as his lyricist.

Do know of “Weird Al”? He took popular songs and changed the lyrics to very entertaining alternatives. What you did to “Strangers in the Night” reminds me of that! You may have a career and a cult following in your future!!! 🙂

I have not come across him, but it is a fun thing to do!

This must have been the version sung, not by Nancy and Frank Sinatra, but by Nancy and Bill Sykes…

Ha, don’t think hearing “Stranglers in the night” would give me a feeling of peace even if it had been sung by Sinatra himself!

I’m sure he would have succeeded in injecting the proper atmosphere of menace into it!

Not so sure that I like the subject, and maybe I prefer ‘ole blue eyes’ but I will givefull marks for effort…so good that I could not think of a reciprocal verse

You are not sentimental – you didn’t get all choked-up by it? 🙂

It was very clever and you are very talented with a stranger sense of humour. But I cannot doubt that it was good and certainly up to your usual standard

Nah! Witty as you are, stranglers are not my idea of people-friendly people!

Well now you come to mention it, Col, I’m sure that’s what Frank really meant to sing. 😯 I saw your title and expected something about ‘Strangler Figs’, but this is far more interesting. Are you perhaps thinking of ‘branching out’ into horror fiction? 🙂

The song kind-of invites it, with such a change happening just by getting the L in there!
