Yippee! Yahoo! Yay! Y?

Distance Badge SwimmingWe have done it!  This afternoon 5-yr-old granddaughter R and I sploshed our way to a total of 800 metres in one go.  The longest swim ever for both of us, although I have lived a great many more years when I could have tried it. But didn’t. Didn’t ever think I could do it!  Now, R just has to repeat the exercise at the official trial in a couple of weeks’ time. She has already proved to herself (and me!) that it is comfortably within her capabilities.

Amazing the fortitude of the young ‘uns.
You have your work cut out for you now! Who’s bitten off more than they can chew I wonder? 🙂
Best of luck. I can just about manage the 2 metres it takes to get from the edge to the bottom.

Next year I have to worry about 1500 metres. Eek.

      • Arkenaten says:

Yes, I saw that. I see the Midmar Mile looming, Mister N.
I remember a conversation over a braai and a few beers about how running 8 kms was a bit of fun but only a complete nutter would contemplate Comrades.

And anyone who knows me knows exactly how that turned out!

        • colonialist says:

There you have me totally. Running 8 kms for me is a bit of impossibility akin to doing the Comrades. Ride, cycle or hike is a different matter.

          • Arkenaten says:

No, sorry, I wasn’t suggesting you do the running. I meant it as a comparison to your swimming.
It starts with a few lengths of the pool with the little one and before you know ít, shes got you training for the bloody Midmar Mile! Wait and see.

  4. Desire says:

    *Standing ovation*! Whooohoooo!

    Now 1000m.
