A News Report is Really Awful Poetry

The NaPoWriMo theme today
Is one from which to keep away:
From snatches of a news report,
A poem found is what one ought
To try compiling; but from that
Results would be quite pancake-flat.

For news reporters have no skill,
At poetry; it makes one ill
To see how little each one knows
Of even penning simple prose,
While subjects news reports contain
Are from a drain, a brain to strain.

Some politicians have been booed;
A pop-star pictured in the nude;
Unfaithful partners, crime and drugs,
And sports results at which one shrugs;
No, really!  I won’t waste the time –
I’ll stick to Really Awful Rhyme.

    I hate how off-putting news writing can be, especially when so much interesting stuff is going on all the time! So many people don’t stay updated because the news is “boring” or “depressing.” I can’t change the depressing part, but I started writing rhyming news updates to combat the boring part! Here’s this week’s, in case you’re interested in some news at a different pace 🙂 .

  2. The news itself is depressing enough, but when it’s so badly read or written, I want to tear out my hair. It would be much more amusing if you could write it up. Why not apply for the job?

    The news these days leaves much to be desired. Integrity… honest… are these things outdated/outmoded? I agree you should stick to your poetry Col! Btw, I’ve just completed my first (and probably last) foray into journalism… (shhhhh for now). Probably just a flash in the political pan.

    Our local news is very bad at “even penning simple prose.” But your poem is delightful and I love the photo of the ginger kitty 🙂

    I agree with you about the newspapers – and they never ever find something new and interesting to report on, do they?
    I think I’ll stick to reading Really Awful Rhyme too 🙂

  12. Amen! Your poem is not very awful at all! I didn’t like ‘got booed’ but that’s just my fad.
