And, fittingly, the last NaPoWriMo prompt calls for a goodbye poem.
I have written well over 30 this month already. I could therefore acquire, and recline upon, a pile of Laurus nobilis leaves. I won’t, though.
From this poem writing spree
We must now take leave
In words valedictory,
Prompt-cred to receive.
Should one offer up ‘goodbye’?
But an atheist,
You not call on God on high,
Might full well insist.
(‘God-be-with-you’ is what means
That-there parting shot,
So a non-believer leans
Counter to that lot.)
‘Farewell’ is a better bet,
Though the ‘fare’ part, now,
Could old-fashioned seem to get –
Out of place, somehow.
One might settle on, ‘So long!’
But what has this length?
‘Cheerio,’ is also wrong;
‘Pip-pip,’ has no strength.
‘See ya!’ lacks all merit, too,
With its common touch;
‘Oh-rev-wah’ the French all do –
I don’t like it much.
Seems the only thing that’s left,
This sad state to save,
So that you don’t feel bereft
Now we’re leaving … wave!
You didn’t mention the awful Dutch way of saying goodbye: the long drawn out “d-a-a-a-a-g!”

That, I have not encountered!

Thank you – and to think that I only intended to do a stanza or two a day … but then I got carried away. i just couldn’t seem to say nay.

I’ll miss your wordplay which I enjoy and will never tire of… although how you do it in a seemingly never-ending fashion I really don’t know… Such talent shouldn’t go to waste. Btw, if I understand you correctly, you will be doing more of one thing and less of another? Is that so?

Good to hear! It is not everyone’s cup of tea by a long way. I will still produce them because I get fun out of them, but will be doing other things as well, like joining in the community things more, and of course making mention of my novels and suchlike.

I will rephrase that for you – you are overwhelmed by it!

Hallelujah! . . . although atheist, I’ll indulge in the popular way to put word to rejoicing.
. . . nice punny ending.

I am deeply suspicious about this rejoicing …

When I lived in Switzerland, even though it was in the German speaking part, they all said ‘ciao’ – Italian for both hello and bye… I kind of like that. I also very much like this! Thank you for this past month! Hope to see you again soon!

That is still in vogue, even in South Africa. I should have included it!
I am regularly here – and my Really Awful Rhyme does carry on! I shall watch out for your further posts.

believe me when I say to thee
I bet they’ll miss your words so free
I ask why does it need to go
When you have enjoyed your writing so.
Seems to me it could carry on
rather than just go..or begone

A fellow lurker!
I think you should accept Col’s challenge.
Let’s see you write verse,
Something pretty, not terse.
Branch out a bit, like a tree,
Have a little flurry; a poetry spree.
or something….
I fixed Visitor btw ( not to be rude and skew off on a tangent on Col’s blog.) You can take that carrot out of your bottom now.

I love it. That is much better than Col’s. 🙂 You should write more of it.
I’ll check it out.
