Tabika
(Taken from cover illustration by Lee Young)

What all is the being,
I pray that all please will all say,
All-snoozing, all-seeing,

Around all our houses all day?

The cat is this creature,
With pins on the end of each leg,
Which has as a feature
Completely refusing to ‘beg’;

Its ears are quite pointy,
And so are the tips of its teeth;
It is double-jointy
In licking itself down beneath;

With whiskers expressive
Cats register joy or disdain,
And – very impressive –
Have tails, which emotions explain;

They can be quite charming
In seeking to get their own way;
In mood that’s disarming
They may even frolic and play;

Cats have conversation
Reduced to the finest of arts:
Can give dissertation
In purrs and meows (hisses in parts);

They have been evol-ved
For ruling the whole human race,
And they have resol-ved
Each person be kept in their place;

For, be-all and end-all
All cats are intended to be,
And all to defend all’s
All right, all indubitably.

      It captured my idea of him well. However, I still have your sketches which did an amazingly good job of following that ‘mood’ for Tabika. And finishing Tabika 3 is the next project on my agenda …

  2. Great poem! Cats are in a category of species apart from any other (and I don’t necessarily mean that in a good way)! 😉

  6. Ah yes, they are certainly the masters, mistresses of the homes where they land alright. I am allergic but continue having them at home. My latest one does not get me as sick as the short hair cats did. Lovely poem and cute pic too. This read made me smile.

    A picture of a cat is enough for me, just as well because my daughter is allergic to them.

  8. Cats rule very well, and they don’t cost as much to feed as fat cat politicians. 🙂

    I have three cats and can fully agree
    that noble they are and always will be
    They have here a home which is warm with good food
    but they stay out all night when they are in the mood
    They do not care if I worry and fret
    That it gets very late and they, re still not home yet.
    when they decide it is time to go home
    there is no apology for going to roam
    No ‘ sorry I, m late or why do you frown’
    Just ‘ come on woman, put my food down’
    It, s very much like being the landy- lady
    of the very classiest cat B &B
