Really Awful Rhyme about a Really Fantastic Xmas.

BLOGPIX DECEMBER 2014

While the kid and grandkids were in Cape Town, this is one of the little projects I set for myself. Levelling the ground so as to put in a fairly large Portapool. It was successfully filled only hours before the return.

Some biddies get in tizzies

If you Merry Xmas say;

To take the ‘Christ’ from ‘Christmas’,

They maintain, is not the way.

But ‘X’ is representative

Of ‘Christ’ from ‘Chi’ in Greek

And has been for a thousand years

If they the truth should seek.

Greek was, in fact, the language

For New Testament, at first –

How sad, of all translations,

Modern English is the worst!

Another thing, to take out ‘X’

Would end up to give this loss –

The subtly-done reminder

Of the very Christian cross!

Consider this tradition:

On the usual Treasure Map,

How do they mark the treasure? –

You should think of that, mayhap!

If you do mathematics

And thus exercise the mind,

‘Tis ‘X’ that you so often

Need the value of to find.

And also do consider,

There is very clearly this:

An ‘X’ shows as a symbol

For a fondly loving kiss!

I wish a Merry Xmas,

Anyway, to everyone,

With joy and love and laughter,

Plus lots and lots of fun!

To those who don’t ‘do’ Xmas,

I have only this to say:

‘Well, take or leave it, matey –

I don’t “Happy Holiday” ! ’

Footnote:  I have tried, here, to have all X in one basket; and you will note how I also brought in the Easter X.
