Really flaming awful rhyme gets under your skin

To hear, ‘Do not attempt to sell,’

Does not sound well to writers;

But light attempts, as I can tell,

May lead to cellulitis!

It only hurts if you move it.

It only hurts if you move it.

On Friday I was full of the joys of – er – late summer and romping around with the kids. On Saturday I was shivering uncontrollably with a swollen and very painful lower leg and foot. I went to bed and slept through the day. This put me into the habit, so I slept the night, and most of Sunday and that night too.

After a painful visit to the doctor on Monday, hobbling on crutches, I now need to spend a whole week with my foot higher than my heart, flapping it at regular intervals – foot, not heart.

I also have to consume about two tons of penicillin. Sixty capsules seems like that, anyway.

Unless I can get a wifi link and some sort of lap tray, that puts paid to internet, and also preparing posts generally. Doing the above on an unfamiliar laptop placed on the bed next to me took about three hours.

Next day:  I have since organised a plank propped up by piles of books, which does improve my speed a bit. Typing with eyes only slightly above the level of the keyboard remains a challenge. Still, I have been able to put in a lot of editing.

Day after: The plank on a tight roll of towels on one side, and on a clarinet case on the other, works better. My laptop is set up for wifi, but will not speak to the one my desktop has, do what I may. The current plan therefore involves a conjuring act using both laptops and a portable hard drive. I wonder if a post may finally happen?

By the way, ever tried to get a reasonable rhyme for ‘cellulitis’? If you venture things like, ‘tell too bright is’ they simply don’t work.

Hey Col, sorry to SEE what it looks like. I have heard of it. The ‘itis’ means inflammation of, in this case, cells. Be careful you don’t get appendicitis now too!

That looks really uncomfortable. I hope you are feeling better and that the inflammation has gone away.

  5. So sorry about your plight, Col. Cellulitis obviously has nothing to do with having cellulite, which many women complain of. It sounds very nasty to require so many antibiotics. I hope you get over it very soon. How frustrating to go from romping around to lying flat on your back. 😦

Thanks for sympathy – frustrating indeed! Especially as we seem to have moved to a neighbourhood where a record of the people and happenings could take over from the top soap operas at the drop of a hat.

  7. To answer your last words first: B-Rhymes has 99 near rhymes for cellulitis, most of them being repulsive itises. But I quite liked motorcyclist!

I’m sorry for all your woes. I have the perfect solution to your keyboard problem – Jock made me a laptop table when I was confined to bed for six months and I now use it as a footstool under my desk (having very short legs!). What a pity you aren’t nearer. You can see a picture of it here: https://vivinfrance.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/laptop-table.jpg?w=640

But I pray you won’t be needing it for long,
    love,
