More than a year ago
You saw me here re-chord
Some notes of utter woe
At seeing pianos go
That were so much adored.
Well, early now this year,
I tried some keyboards out,
But all of those, I fear,
Struck notes just nowhere near,
And left me filled with doubt.
But, from a Riv’r of Lions,
An Eavestaff Mini Royal
Saw, which small size combines
With action that refines
Full tone and volume loyal.
For ages I held fire
On having piano sent,
But, space or not, desire
Was ever more on fire,
And I became hell-bent!
It’s just had its first tune,
Though I can’t play it now –
With foot up – I will soon,
And I’m over the moon …
Hope I remember how!
I’m so glad you found the right notes. Mine went to England three years ago, near breaking my heart as I’d it since I was 3. Daughter swapped it with me for the Cllarinova touch sensitive keyboard that |I gave her for her 21st bothday xxx years ago. When we moved, we had no room even for the keyboard, so it went to a composer friend.
How’s the foot getting on? I hope you’ll soon be mobile again.
love,
ViV

No room even for a keyboard? Now, that is true hardship!
I have just glugged the last antibiotic, and am hopeful of gradually and cautiously resuming normal life from tomorrow.

Another minor graze had cellulitis setting in again. What a pain (in more ways than one)!

I’m sure you will remember – I love pianos (and have one that needs to be moved to my present location – can’t wait) 😊

Perhaps you should shepherd it every step of the way to be on the safe side – rather like moving a horse!

Iam SO glad you’ve got a pi-and-o again! I wouldn’t be able to sell my strings, not to save my life… well maybe to save my kids’ lives, but it would still feel to me as though a part of mine were taken…

I am amazed, in fact, that the expanse of keyboard is the same, and the quality of sound hardly seems less than either of the predecessors. It just takes up a heck of a lot less space.

That’s great! Electronic pi-hanno?

No – even the most expensive of those didn’t seem any good, touch-sensitive or not. This is a compact Eavestaff Mini Royal as commissioned for Danish royalty. Just been tuned after settling down.

Ah, ok! No wonder it has such a sweet sound! 🙂
The same can be said for violins. One can do all sorts of things for an electric violin on an amp, but it doesn’t replace the actual warm sound of a real one.

Yip. The electronics simply won’t quite cut it. Pity a piano doesn’t come with earphones, though.

You will remember how to play,
You will, I’m sure you will.
You’ll doubt it ev’ry passing day,
Yet persevere! But still —
The fingers creak, the shoulders ache,
The muscles lose their tone;
I’ve been there, did those doubts partake —
Chin up! It comes! Don’t feel alone!
Six months without a piano made
Me anxious and forlorn,
But once I on a keyboard
played
I felt I was re-born!
Moral: Absence makes your grey cells ponder if you’ll ever play that Rondo …

I used to have the Waldstein
Off absolutely pat –
But now, both Opus forty-nine,
I can’t remember THAT!
I tried some simple Chaminade
Today (I didn’t ought!),
But even that was awf’lly hard –
While Bach gives Fugue for thought …
A thing that means play-straying
Remains at a full-stop
Is, I can’t play displaying
My foot on piano-top!
But should I consider Lehar’s Merry Widder?

Even at my best, I am a purely recreational player. My performances are noteworthy only in the number of wrong notes!

We’ll have a contest to figure out how many notes, hahaha – I doubt you’re that bad.

For a split second I was wondering why you had a room full of pianos? I know, it would have been safer not to ask…

Wouldn’t that be fun! A job to keep them all in tune, though, And the, ‘Which one do I play today … um … er … ah …?’ by which time it is bedtime!

a little bit on this one today – then try that one, maybe go back to the first one – oooooh have I tried THAT one? (oh no! which was the one I liked so much? eeek) – talk about confusion!

it would also suit someone who is either schizophrenic or suffers from split personality, maybe even bipolar folks – a piano for each?
