Really Awfully Lovely Treat Meant

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Treat.”

When having feelings of defeat
And wanting a treat of something sweet,
Nothing makes life more a ballad
Than a large self-made fruit salad!

Fruit Salad

Actually, I threw this one in just for fun, and to brag a little. My only accomplishment as a chef!

Mind you, there is nothing wrong
When Pavlova comes along! –
Cape Town’s Waterfront, ate hearty
At a very pleasant party.

A Pavlova at Cape Town's Waterfront

Going home, we went by sea
Sailing on the Melody,
‘Malady’ for many there,
For it gave them mal de mare!

The Melody

Seen here were the final sights
Of that city’s great ‘de-lights’!
Then came rock-and-rolling through
Whole of night, and next one, too!

Leaving Cape Town on 'Melody'

Pictures make such treats remain
Fresh in memory again,
Though, for some, would make them wailers –
Those who do not make good sailors!

  1. You are two days sailing away from Cape Town? Gosh, that’s a big country you have there. I am thankful that I have a cast iron stomach when it comes to crossing la mer (5 hours to England from here)

It is actually less than that if the ship is in a hurry, but the cruise ships bumble along – particularly when everything is sloshing around a lot.
I have read many a message of misery related to crossings of that particular ditch, so you are lucky.

I must admit to being very partial to fruit salad! And with a scoop of yoghurt or ice cream, I’ll be in heaven!
