Dinnertime

Dinnertime

This dinner table’s set midday,
And not at eventide;
We do our Christmases that way –

To wait we can’t abide!

So if you suffer from a hunch
From childhood you’ve been taught,
That midday meals just must be lunch
To’ve been, you didn’t ought!

The first course was consommé, cold,
Then came some prawns to follow,
Then stuffed roast turkey out we rolled,
And any spaces hollow …

… were then filled in with pudding, plum,
And brandy sauce galore;
Champagne, with all, let good times come –
And few came back for more!

    Oooh…. more food, Col. I’ve just seen Sylvia’s plates and now I’ve seen this!
    I like this line: To’ve been, you didn’t ought!… very toey and froey!

  4. Where was this? I couldn’t eat so much in a Southern hemisphere summer! Christmas dinner was always about 3pm in my young days – any earlier and the mammoth turkey would be underdone!

    I had a little chuckle at your poem. When I was a child we had breakfast, dinner and tea, only the posh had dinner at night!
