For Day 26 of NaPoWriMo I have gone off at a tangent to the question-and-response prompt in order to pose a simple question and long response related to the core of philosophy, and to the individualism of the drop you represent in the ocean of life.
You know you exist, and you know you are you,
You simply can’t change that, whatever you do,
No matter you’d like to be Tom, Dick, or Harriet,
No effort of yours in the least bit will carry it;
You can make yourself thinner, or fatter, or wise,
Put tattoos on your body, or contacts in eyes;
You can choose to be stupid, or lazy, or sad.
Or decide to be positive, active and glad;
You can make yourself ugly or looking quite nice;
You may aim for the virtues, or go for a vice;
It’s your choice to be pleasant or nasty at will.
And you can, if you like, even choose to be ill!
–
But all of these ‘yous’ that you take off the shelf
Remain, with a certainty, you and yourself –
The ‘you’ is a life-force, and this will endure,
As do all the forces, you may be quite sure;
While knowing that you are completely unique,
Retaining ‘you’-niqueness is not much to seek;
Force unified, you can’t be sure this will stay —
Still, ‘you’-nification should keep it that way?
Thus if all life-forces in future should merge,
Your segment retains individual urge;
So see that your ‘you’-ness the heights will, tall, climb –
For you’d like a ‘you’ you could like for all time!
What fascinating reads! Love the one about SASSA – for obvious reasons. After a THIRD visit to the “office” situated somewher inside the station buildings, this saga appears to have ended well, Once again, many thanks to all who assisted with transport, tissues for cries of frustration etc.

I like this Col (and apologies, my Like buttons aren’t responding today!), and I’m already a Tom as well. And your descriptions sum me up perfectly. And I’ve used too many ‘ands’… yes. Very deep, but good!

I can only like here and not there, though, which I don’t like as much…

Kind of you to say so. I am pleased with the way it turned out, and do hope it will generate a bit of thought.

This is deeper than it seems on first reading. Cause for pondering.
Could you rephrase the 4th line from the end “Thus if all life-forces should one day all merge,” – two “alls” — though I know they’re there to complete the meter. Perhaps the first one could become “the” (sorry, the editor in me is irrespressible).

You are absolutely right. That first ‘all’ was popping in and out like a bee in a Coke bottle when I wrote it. However, substituting ‘the’ didn’t seem to fit. I should have turned my attention to the second one as per current revision – this is far better, methinks!
