Really Awful Catnap

On Sunday, House and Garden Show:
But I had chosen not to go;
Around the house I had some work –
Like paving, which I could not shirk
(Well, round the house it isn’t, quite,
But ‘round the courtyard’ would be right).

So, anyway, while thus employed,
I thought it time the kits enjoyed
Exposure to the great outdoors,
In which they seldom have set paws
(Granddaughters go quite paranoid,
To every risk of loss avoid).

And did they really go to town!
They climbed trees up, they fell trees down,
And charged around like creatures crazed;
Their energy had me amazed;
And every nook and cranny tried
For cunning places where to hide.

The neighbours’ dogs on either side
The sight of them could not abide,
And all barked loudly, ‘We will kill!’
Kits laughed, ‘Not with our climbing skill!
But soon avoided taking strolls
Where lurked these anti-cat patrols.

So in and out they went with glee;
At last, when in, passed out, you see …
Though played out’s what they did all day,
They’re played out in another way.

  1. What a pair. Cats do love an outdoor adventure if possible…now they will nag you for another everytime they see you?

    I also have an indoor “Ginger” as we are surrounded by Boerbuls-though he does have a small well-fenced “catiary” where he still manages to catch the odd bird, mouse or rat!

      You need a cat like our first Siamese in Germiston, who viciously attacked and chased local cat-killing Alsatians and big dogs generally, putting them into a state of unholy terror at the sight of him.

    They are gorgeous. I love ginger cats. You must now be their favourite person who let them out and let them run wild.
