The Weekly Photo Challenge theme of Rare has provided the perfect opportunity for me to post pictures I would, in any case, have featured today:
This garden-on-a-table is an exhibit at the Durban and Coast Horticultural Society, to illustrate the importance of design, at Durban’s annual Sustainable Living Exhibition. (The ‘accidental’ substitution of an ‘o’ for one ‘i’ there would have given rise to much interest, no doubt!) 🙂 The show runs from today (Friday) to Sunday.
I made the wooden frame and prepared the metal container — an old drip-tray for a geyser — while the rest was done by Much Better Half and her sister. All the plant material is real and growing, and the central ‘paving tiles’ were cut out of egg-boxes. This is the Garden Judges’ subsection’s contribution to the DCHS stand. There are numerous other things going on there.
Beautiful – I was fooled to the end!

The garden must have started looking a bit odd to you with that sign added, though! But, of course, that still doesn’t reveal the scale.

I’d love to see this. When I was in 5th grade and we lived in colonial Williamsburg, VA there was a little shop with “imported goods”. There were these little garden lawns and assorted flowers you could buy and put in flowerbed pieces and create gardens like this one with minature pebbles and ponds. I would save money from chores and run down there to buy piece by piece.
I could have used paint, cardboard, and homemade stuff, but these little garden things were like elegant fairy land components. I still have most of that set.
What a lovely event.

I’m sorry this design didn’t allow for a water feature – which always add interest.

I don’t know about colonialist being creative, his better half and her sister certainly are, all he did was spply and old drip tray. XD

My goodness, LordBeari – anyone who can make such excellent use of a comma (“Rare medium, well done”) is creative in my book! And added to that, he can FIX things!

*indignantly* What about my beautiful frame?
(I mean the one I built, not the one I undoubtedly possess!)
