Our work laptops have Windows 7 and they were recently upgraded to Office 2010. Can’t say I like it at all! Or I might be resistant to change…

I have cursed and sworn, but then become more accustomed. Some features are, actually, an improvement when one gets used to them. The whole setup is better adapted to the touchy-feely technology, I must admit.

Thank you, Col for this advice,
Your helpful offering is really nice.
But Windows Live Mail I do use,
And shall until it blows a fuse.
Then, Outlook it will be for me
And blue screen? I’ll wait and see!

Best stick to Windows 8-we have 10 and it is gobbling data with updates every few days-has become excessively expensive!

One needs to get large inexpensive data bundles or one misses out on sophistication now on offer.

Ages ago I decided Outlook (or any local e-mail client integrated with other productivity tools) was not what I wanted for my personal e-mail. I just want something that does e-mail. Using GMail right now (11 years now) but they too are adding too many features that slow things down and increase the chances of stuff going wrong.

I have GMail but don’t use it much. I like the archives in Outlook.

Me too; they can shove their Windows 10 right up where it’ll do the most good!

Trouble is that 8 will have a limited lifetime, now.

Actually, I hear 10 is all that 8 was promised to be but wasn’t. I was running 7 when the system upgraded me to 10 (part of their free upgrade offer).
I was pretty pissed because I liked Windows 7, but after many months, I can say 10 has been no problem at all and other than it looking pretty bland, it works very well.
I did switch off all the bells and whistles and some features that I would never use, but like I said, I got nothing to complain about.

I learnt from the XP experience. Stick doggedly to it, and suddenly the carpet is swept up from under one’s feet. Once one gets used to it, 10 is better than 8.

I’m not sorry I updated, actually. The issue here was with Outlook.
