Done a few things since arrival like visiting Hamleys (highlight for kids) hopping on and off buses, trains, tubes, taxis, and a riverboat. Buckingham Palace, St Pauls, Tower Bridge and all that lot. We saw “Wicked” as planned – utterly amazing.
Now in Cornwall. Dined last night at Jamaica Inn.
In the back garden of friend’s home where we are guests at the moment.

I’m not long back from England (and a prolonged break from the blogosphere) – we too had a fun time, and I have to say the November weather there was better than spring has been here in Wellington! Only thing was, how short the days were. That meant we dived into pubs unusually early.

We Cockneys never ever referred to the Underground as anything but, I don’t know when the word “tube” started being used for our Underground, The signs outside, and above, used to proclaim it as such. “UNDERGROUND” in red & white if memory serves me.
So can you tell me why it’s now referred to as “Tube”; it’s certainly underground but I’m not so sure about being a tube?
I had plenty of tubes hanging out of me recently, and it certainly doesn’t bear any resemblence to them.
Bit like the American “train station”; it’s not a “train station”; it’s a station along a railway line (track for the US cousins); and as such it’s a railway station. A place for trains o stop at or pass through whatever is their want.
As you see I have a thingy about trains, stations, and things, spoiling my day. XD
