Eldest granddaughter Immy has just received the following letter:
We are, of course, thrilled. With the reputation and performance of Oxford, only those with outstanding graduate results even bother to apply, and even then most are turned away. We can only hope that logistics will enable her to take up the offer.
This is the Immy of Immy and the Dragon fame, of course. It just shows how useful towards one development it is to befriend a dragon at an early age! 🙂
Wow – what a thrill and a triuph for all concerned… congratulations

Thank you! To add icing to the cake, her very steady boyfriend with whom it was planned that they did Honours at the same university, has now also been accepted at Oxford! That removes a possible dilemma, and now all they need to do is keep up their levels for the last few papers.

Congrats to Immy. My Sam enjoyed his time at Oxford

So Sam has been one of the privileged? It is quite something when one computes the number worldwide who would like to go there set against the number actually admitted.

Impressive and commendable.
Went to read a bit about it . . . seems they’ve been around for a while.

They have indeed. Claims to be the oldest university in the world are debatable, with Bologna probably being the first of the modern ones. Also, similar institutions in places like Egypt far pre-date it. Oxford is certainly in the top five on most modern lists, though.

I’ve been looking hard for the expected tongue in cheek but haven’t found it, so shall offer heartiest congratulations to your eldest daughter! Literature, eh? Clearly a chip off the old block. (Now, now, I didn’t say blockhead, please note.)

Nope, apart from the ox ford, all serious. Thanks! Eldest daughter does deserve some of the credit as the brilliant mother of eldest granddaughter, but the latter is the one going all literate!
