Proposals for Land Expropriation Without Compensation

Wordle 343

Some Midlands farmland improved over the past couple of centuries. Grabbable for free?

Heap scorn, and make no wild attempt to cajole,
Such means of wolf practice are small in kind and role;
Close by, cause one to cringe at the sight —
Proponents, all, may be called a blight.

(Latest attempts by politicians in South Africa to play to the dimmer members of their constituencies and to create diversions away from their own incompetence and criminality are to promise to seize white-owned property and ‘restore’ it to black ownership. Legal, constitutional, practical and moral issues are conveniently being swept aside.)

  1. What are they trying to do take Africa back to where it was to thousand years ago?

  2. Gobetween says:

It is a shocking promise he is making to get voters on his side. Can it be implemented even if previous presidents have signed agreements in the past which prohibits this?

    • colonialist says:

Oh, of course it is totally contrary to the Constitution. No problem, they simply want to vote to change that. Easy way out. If you are in government and you want to do something illegal, just make it become legal.

  3. I didn’t realise that was happening. To have that awful situation hanging over your head must be a nightmare. I am so sorry.

    • colonialist says:

Utterly, utterly stupid. Already many businesses are thinking of pulling out. I can’t see them getting this expropriation right without the most enormous repercussions. It is from the same base of logic that says a certain proportion of blacks must be in sport sides or specialised jobs, whether or not they have the skills. Most of those enjoying the free ride feel some embarrassment; others simply go along with it and productivity/results take a plunge.

      • I can well imagine. As for the proportion of blacks in sport and specialised jobs its sound like a box ticking exercise.
Hardly the same but some similarities. My school was once criticised by an OFSTED inspector for not having enough ethnic minority’s! Ludicrous criticism, you can’t force them to apply!

  4. disperser says:

Such are the perils of a Democracy run by populist decree. Currently, all the right noises are being made, but it’s something to worry about because good intentions have a way of being badly executed.

Hopefully, cool heads will prevail and something equitable and constitutional can be worked out . . . but, given human nature, I’m not holding my breath. Plus, as with all governments, one can expect graft, corruption, favoritism, and politicians lining their pockets.

Nothing fun to look forward to.

    • colonialist says:

I haven’t heard many right noises. The proposals amount to theft however they are dressed. The fact that they are in response to some ‘thefts’ which occurred as part of history does not excuse their being visited on the present generation.
