It started with the hard drive of Younger Daughter’s TV decoder up in the main house packing in. This meant that programmes could no longer be saved and stored for when she, the kids, and the two of us in the cottage, had the time to view them. She bought a new decoder at a Massmart store. They didn’t tell her, though that it was not a matter of plug and play. Some hefty new installation was needed.
After fuming for a while she ordered a technician team and also got them to lay a cable to link our TV down in the cottage so that we could use the old decoder. Hitherto, since my own decoder gave in years ago, our gift TV from YD has been used for the occasional video and that is all. Now came the rub. ‘You’ll have to cut a path through those trees for the singal to reach the dish,’ the installation guy announced cheerfully … after the cable had been laid.
I recommissioned my chainsaw and commenced slicing. That was yesterday, and I have only got part of the way with the gap needed. While I am at it, I want to top the whole line of trees to extend the sea view from the house and increase the sunlight. It is going to take an awful lot of doing, but we are getting reception already …
I have posted before about a private path to the beach (not the public one recently posted about) for which we have a key. Some time ago the lock was broken by vandals and the gate was chained up. The lock has just been repaired, and granddaughters and I had a quick trip there after their squad swimming practice at school this afternoon.

You’re right! I thought of taking pictures from the treetops but that as well as lugging a chainsaw around up there might have been courting disaster!

Why didn’t I think of that? Maybe not, though. When I look at a book these days I start editing it out of sheer force of habit. At least I don’t get that from TV!

Love the video… and the private path… it looks enchanting…the beach looks amazing… and what wonderful memories your grandchildren will have for the rest of their lives…Lucky you to be making them…

The boardwalk visited earlier is lovely, but somehow this more rustic path is even more enchanting. I hope they will think of those memories as pleasant — hard work getting back up!
