Brutish British Royals Still Shoot Peasants

Royal Peasant Hunting

A Boxing Day custom that’s really unpleasant
Is how British Royals still shoot at a pheasant,
The old ones can’t help it; the practice is rooted,
But for all the young ones it needs to be booted.

If I have grown up through when those who game hunted
Are not now admired, but leave one affronted,
Then, as a loyal royalist, I must demand it
That Royals, anti-hunting, should now all command it.

It was most disappointing to read that the princes did the traditional hunt at Sandringham on Boxing Day this year. Like foxhunting, this is a barbaric tradition that should be lost as soon as possible.

I agree. I am a staunch Royalist but do not admire their love of bloodsports.
Pheasants live somewhere here on the farm and have regular walkabouts, they often come into the garden in search of bird food from the feeders. I do enjoy seeing them, such a pleasure. We were once approached for permission to allow shooting here, we refused.

Furious! And we complain about the barbaric slaughter of a sheep at Clifton!

In this I am entirely in agreement with you. There’s no real economic, environmental or ethical reason for it, and it’s disappointing when a younger generation take to it like, er, a duck to water (if the duck managed to avoid the shot).

When I read it my blood pressure hit the ceiling. Nevertheless I am a staunch republican. A glorious 2019 to you and the family.

You have seen very thoroughly, lately, the sort of leadership republicanism produces. There is much to be said for an enlightened and responsible monarchy. This act, however, was not responsible; it is a part of tradition that needs to be dumped.

And the same to you and yours!

  5. Have pheasants shoots a lot in Lincolnshire. Hubby used to do pest control, and that was different. Can’t see the need to kill for sport.

Enlightened thinking is against it, and one would think that the Royal Family would take the lead with more advanced attitudes. Even where some eradication is necessary to counter overpopulation of a species, I cannot think that making a sport of it is in any way justified.
