I’ve been away, as see you may:
In hospital I had a stay,
And something else went missing too —
Of kidneys, of which I had two,
Now one is left, but I don’t care;
I carry one of them as spare!
Still, it is something of a pain
That I will not have two again;
Most careless, one of them I’ve lost,
I can’t afford replacement cost;
But therein something nasty lurked
To interfere with how it worked
That could sneak into other parts
On further mischief to make starts!
It is amazing how these days
So short a time one finds one stays,
Day after, on a walk to go
With therapy that’s physio!

Wow, I am so sorry to hear about this. Here is some good news for you, usually a person can survive on one kidney alone. I even heard that the cut kidney has the power to grow back, so long as the damage was not severe, or the organ’s structure was not destroyed. There is a lot of hope here. Nevertheless, I can understand your concern. I am also sorry to hear about your financial situation. Do not worry, everything will be okay. If I may ask, do you by any chance believe in God? You see, God is the alpha and the omega. God has the power to do all things according to his will. Nothing is impossible for the Lord to do. God is able to help you at this time, and he is able to make sure that all things work well for your favor. Do you have a relationship with him yet? If not, you are missing out on many goodies. God is faithful, and his mercies are great. He alone can do all things, and those who trust in the Lord are never disappointed. A blessing delayed is not a blessing denied.
God says in Isaiah 41:10
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand”.
The Bible says in Philippians 4:6
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done”.
A relationship with the Lord starts here. It begins with faith in the Lord, prayers, obedience to the word, and a passion for Christ. God is ready, the question is, are you ready?

Thanks for that. The remaining kidney is gathering in the reins and riding successfully, but in line with my philosophy in that it is not employing a bit!
On religion I have rather complex ideas in that it seems to me that most conventional religions today are still way back in myths of the Dark Ages and need to get real. So many beliefs are absurdities, and many are obvious man-made constructions totally devoid of logic. The court is still out even on whether Jesus existed or not.
Actual evidence for a life force (or soul) surviving death, and for overall control and purpose in All That Is seems fairly convincing, though (God?); and the atheist view of everything happening basically because it happened/happens, or, as they put it, because of natural laws, seems quite as lame as the fairy stories.
By and large, I think that most people reach the stage of belief they are ready for and are comfortable with, unless unduly indoctrinated.

Interestingly, I find that this little reminder of mortality has not really resulted in a rush to have any spiritual connection happen. I also find the concept of existence as a means to offer praise to a narcissistic ‘creator’ somewhat demeaning to that ‘creator’, and would reason that the meaning and purpose of all life goes much further than that. Nevertheless, I thank you for your interest and concern.

It’s a great design to have two kidneys so that one can be spared, if absolutely necessary. Wish we could say that about all of our organs! Wishing you a complete recovery and renewed strength and a return to your former activities! You have a good attitude, and that’s an encouragement to us all, Leslie.

That’s true, two days after whipping out my stomach, they had me up and walking, no argument, “Up! Walk!” Best thing to do, glad they stood over me!
I was thinking of getting some kidneys to have sautéed, for breakfast tomorrow,; rather partial to sautéed kidneys and bacon,.
Think I’;ll give it a miss; never know what they’re like to sell in the shops these days.

Thank you for that. The absence has put me in a position to review ‘Origin’ by Dan Brown, ‘A Friend Like Ben’ by Julia Romp, and probably a book by Phil Rickman where a blurb synchronistically describes him as ‘writing the pants off Dan Brown’.

Many of Phil Rickman’s books are set in the Welsh Marches, just a few miles up the road from me—I’d read him any time over Dan Brown (unless I wanted a good belly laugh). Good reading!

SO pleased to read that it’s out and that you’re feeling chipper enough to entertain us with rhyme! Big brother Paul was also in hospital last week with viral pneumonia, have a photo of him, not breathing too well, but still smiling! He also recovered quickly and is quite his usual self again.

No kidding, Col? 😳Good job you have a spare. You’d better take good care of it too. 🤗 I can’t believe how soon you were sent packing from your hospital bed, but I’m sure you’re glad to be home again. After all, those leaves aren’t going to jump out of the pool of their own volition.

Not quite — everyone had a different task involving the sweeping equipment. Kids to hold hose in place, daughter to sweep bottom, and self to oversee and handle controls.
