If I were not ill already,
It occurs to me, you know,
That events do go on steady
Guaranteed to make me so.
Take today: patiently waiting,
So that patient I could be,
But to find a waiting rating
Just not high enough I’d see.
The neuro-type appointment
Did proceed quite well enough,
Giving news about my problem
In some terms both frank and tough.
It appears that cancer spreaded,
Pretty well along my spine,
And to stop me being deaded
That it must be kept in line.
Radiotherapy was booked then
For the evening, half-past-six,
Which quite sadly would be just when
A school gala came to mix.
At the gala, call informed me
Their machine had just gone wrong,
So – Hooray! – I was now left free
To with gala stick along.
And the girls both did us credit
With Jeneva winning all,
And Rhiannon win or place in
Every race you care to call.
Now tomorrow with no breakfast
Yet more blood tests will be done,
And then on therapy insist —
Oh, don’t I have such fun!
Certainly NO fun at all! I cannot imagine how it is you keep us “giggling” when what you have to share is so tough. But it means you’re an incredible person, and you have ALL of us pulling for you in every possible way. If attitude has anything to do with a good recovery, then you are surely going to continue to do well with your treatments!

Thank you for these kind remarks. The more amusing I find the situations, the easier they become to experience!

I know none of us get out of this life alive, but f**k cancer, and the horse it rode in on too!

So sorry you’re going through all this, Col. Glad you got to the swimming gala though, to cheer on your granddaughters.

Yes, that worked out well. Maybe I put a hex on the machine!

Glad you could enjoy the girls’ swimming prowess without interruption! Apart from their hard work and discipline, their success is also very much thanks to your support.
Jy is baie dapper en ek is mal oor jou “Really Awful Rhymes” – met so ‘n benadering kan dit nie anders as dat jy sal wen nie!

Ek’s ‘n dapper dapper muis,
En ek marseer deur die huis,

En, asook, geen remme op my fiets!

Make it a sweep, well you?
You are the fourth blogger I know that had to deal with the Big C. The others managed to send it back into hiding.
We seen to share a certain attitude in life and I believe it’s a great help in dealing with things that would daunt lesser humans. I’m certainly, was I’m sure are others, pulling for you to hang tough.

It is a very popular malady. I should have thought of something with greater novelty. Does having two different ones at the same time count, I wonder?

It scores in the efficiency department but there’s no practical advantage to it.

Nor even on efficiency because there are two different treatments to annoy one!

. . . sadly, it’s not efficiency at your end or for your benefit that I’m referencing . . .

I sat here unsure which path to take, do I joke and pretend this is not true or do I sympathise?
So after some thought and deliberation I’m going with my gut.My gut is not in a good place either so you’ll have to bear with me.
I’m truly sorry that your battle continues, it’s everyone’s nightmare, but it’s real life for you. And so I send you warmest wishes for your efforts in kicking this ghastly thing into touch!

Thank you. If, with the sympathy, you get a giggle, then it is job done.

Not something one would wish on frank,
No less than wish on Les.
One can hope, you’re able to cope,
And they soon sort out this mess.
Thinking of you, Mister N.

Well, I can’t accuse them of not trying. Every day they seem to think of something new.
