Doctor says where I was headed
I was very nearly deaded,
Two types of cancer, both stage four,
Had me right at heaven’s door;
Fact that he can be so frank
Shows that, modern meds to thank,
And some bits snipped here and there,
Have allowed him to declare
I’m not going anywhere!
Well, not yet, at any rate,
Which is absolutely great:
From a party bad to run
When there’s still such lots more fun!
But says I should leave alone
Things that might just break a bone
So, perhaps, it cannot be
That I try to learn to ski,
Take up skydiving, or race
Motorbikes around the place;
Though, to simply sit and knit
Won’t appeal to me one bit.

What a great attitude to adopt. I’m not sure if I could be as brave. Good luck to you.

Keep quacking. 😉

Please, please, for entirely selfish reasons don’t take yourself off any time soon—I do derive huge pleasure from your inventive doggerel, ingrained dogma and intricate word doodling, but above all from your zest for living. I appreciate your sometimes curmudgeonly manner as a necessary counterpart to your self-deprecating generosity in giving freely of your time, energy and advice in support of family, friends and us, your wider audience. So yes, imbibe deeply at that fountain and continue to regale us.

This is very kind and deeply appreciated.
I would have thought that some of the rhyme is so really awful that cries of:
Was ever one you ever knew
With demise so overdue?

There you go, self-deprecating again, it’s not a competition to see if we can outdo one another! 😁

And the doc did not so much as utter,
About whether you are or are not a nutter,
Perhaps the big C is easier to fend,
If you are in fact, somewhat round the bend?
A shot in the arm to celebrate,
That Mister N , is not yet late,
Positive news to allay the fears,
Seems you’ll be around for a number of years.

Perhaps the nutter part, instead,
He is taking much as read,
Hope that I will not, now, get,
Even lots more nutty yet!

Fear not dear Col, I’m sure you’re fine,
You may become redolent like an old ”whine”,
But when it comes to matters of doolally,
In me you’ll always have an ally.
Pleased as punch,
You’re not yet ”out to lunch”

Did I ever tell you that some of my ancestors are Nutters (for real)? My wife fell off her perch laughing when she unearthed that surname.

The penchant for ‘odd’ names crosses all cultures and languages I’m sure and the meaning changes as time progresses.
Anyway, Nutter is preferable than a name such as Slowbottom or some such!

Quilting. Quilting is the answer.
Good to hear the terrible four have been taught some manners and are now behaving.
Also refreshing hearing modern medicine get the recognition for the positive results instead of some imaginary entity that if it existing would be to blame for the occurrences in the first place.
Some kudos surely you deserve for an attitude that’s also refreshing and methinks contributed to the positive outcome.
Now, get quilting.
