In keeping with the custom of saying ‘Rabbits’ on the first of each month, hare is the first ever Bugs Bunny. Before evolution happened.
On this soggy day, I am
Off on a ballet important mission,
Though for more comfort I am wishin’,
Through lots of squelch I wend my way
To fetch granddaughter from ballet!
That’s a new one on me. Rabbits??? How strange.

It is fairly widespread. Variations include that it has to be ‘White Rabbits’, or that it has to be in a particular month, or that instead of attracting gifts it is to give good luck or avert bad luck.

And what a beautiful ballerina she is! Thanks for the video, as well. I just heard a radio commentary stating that Bugs Bunny was modeled after Groucho Marx. I can see that in the Bugs I grew up with, but I’ve never seen this very first cartoon. Fascinating!

One can certainly see some Groucho in classic Bugs cartoons.
Did you notice that from around the middle, Bugs was given a laugh which obviously evolved into the Woody Woodpecker one? (dit-dit-dit-dah-dah)

I’m glad it evolved to the latter incarnation. That bordered on the seriously annoying. Then again, them were simpler times.

Some of the most recent ones have been quite irritating, too, where Bugs stops being endearingly laid-back.

I quit watching Bugs and Road Runner cartoons when they started editing them to remove scenes of “violence”. It made the cartoons nonsensical. Also, the writing went from clever to generic vanilla.

A common trend in much writing today, which reminds one of stepping onto a church bench. Yes, pew tread.
