WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE: SUMMER

IT AUTUMN BE SUMMER

  I should have posted one of today’s pictures for the current Photo Challenge theme, but it is actually late Autumn here, of course. Nevertheless, it was a magic day which saw me in the pool first thing, and as soon as I had collected young R from playschool we headed for the beach with the pack of ecstatic pooches. The water was lovely and warm, and while I scoured the wave-line in a despairing search for shells R went to the highwater mark. Soon she called me casually to show what she had found. Her first completely unaided discovery of a cowrie! It was a pretty one with spots. I asked her to show me where she had come upon it, and she led me there. I promptly pounced on another.

  Then I did some ‘pruning’ of an enormous wild fig which is trying to cover our pool, and after removing some large branches with much sawing I gratefully took another swim.

  I haven’t been posting for a few days – what time I have found in between juggling with instruments of the orchestra has been taken up with visits and comments. Anyway, I now have three themes orchestrated, and a fourth composed – this was for goblins, and gave me a lot of hassles because it insisted in coming out as a complex tone-poem instead of something kids would identify with easily. I think I have now struck the happy medium (punched a laughing psychic?).

 

  What I have grabbed hastily for the Summer theme is a picture taken in the height of that season at Makaranga, showing some bromeliads and orchids thriving out in the open with a green backdrop. I think it is a pleasantly summery shot.
