Power cuts are now to be
Seen here intermittently;
After parts of every tree
Were removed, the lines to free,
Lightning fried a vital part
Inside a substation heart,
Blasting the whole thing apart,
Not allowing a re-start;
Now the current comes and goes,
Starts and stops, and no-one knows,
How soon after current flows,
It will go back to a doze.
Some fault set in during the early evening after the day of no internet, and power vanished again for a while. It was restored, but the lightning tripped our earth leakage. Then a most spectacular thunderstorm raged in the wee hours of the morning – I really thought the gods were trying to boil tea in the sea with thunderbolts. That successfully put paid to electricity again for the rest of the night – it was a steaming hot one, and the lack of aircon was sorely felt.
I was just looking into hundreds of stacked emails this morning when the current went off for the whole area again. This time we learnt that they are trying to patch through and beg borrow or steal from other areas, and that reliability of supply is something that we should not expect for quite a while.
And now, the pooch pack has pointed out in a panic that another thunderstorm is brewing. Sea tea again?

Oh, not again! It seems that you’re more off than on. I hope Escom manage to fix the problems, so that you can wade through your e-mails, but please don’t hold your breath. 🙂 No air con at this time of year is no joke. I hope we don’t find our house is all mildewed when we get back in March. 😦

oh no. how frustrating. We have electricity and a beautiful sunny day here at the sea today and my wifi problems persist. Thankfully the tourist office has free wifi so am going to catch up and maybe even post on my own blog today! Hang in there. Hoping you have gas stove so can make tea while the storm makes its own!

Ugh, we have it too! Never know whether it is intentional or not – ie for maintenance or break downs, ha! ‘They’ don’t answer the phone, but sometimes have a l-o-o-o-ng recorded message of all the areas affected… Fat lot of use that is when you don’t know the cause and the estimated length of being without. 😦

Welcome back for however long until the next outing. We take our electric for granted and are quite lost when it’s out…at least, I am!

I think in Durbs we are used to the power going off at the slightest snap, crackle and pop in the sky. My area in Toti always seemed to be the one without power while I could lights elsewhere.
I’ve been lucky in my area in Joburg so far, but the Ark warns me the power outage can happen here during storms, too.

Unannounced stoppages are a nuisance. Pity you cannot make real tea from the sea.

Do you have a plain old sit up and beg typewriter? You could still write, then scan it when the power’s back.
