On Saturday came lots of swimming,
But this time no water was brimming;
At nine and at twelve
All else had to shelve

Young R ‘Silver Badge’ has attained,
Her sister her ‘Tadpole’ has gained,
And came badges for each
For distance they reach:
At eight hundred; ten; they have strained!
While R got a trophy as well;
Though this time she failed to excel
At all of the races,
No sort of disgrace is:
‘Good Spirit Award’ much can tell!

Among other things undertaken was the collection of a few Dracaenas – this is the first of two big loads! And, yes, that is my own rusty – I mean, t-rusty! – MB, once again increasingly brought into service after that annoying period of crutches and stuff.

The plants are for filling in all over the garden where removal of pest species has created vast gaps.

I’ve never heard of Dracaenas. What do they do?

Oh, right. Well, most of the varieties of this ‘dragon plant’ have attractive foliage and are shallow-rooted. They don’t break down walls, and are easily cut back or transplanted. They are particularly good when one wants height but has tiny planting space and need something long and narrow.
