I simply cannot handle:
All HANDLES on it seem
Locked up, or snuffed like candle;
I shall attempt the job
By trying to get by with
The turning of a knob
Of verse, to tell you ‘Why’ with!
Then, at the selfsame time,
For Sonel and for Nessy,
These WORDS provide the rhyme
(Though picture’s a bit messy);
That they are quite absurd
Is not at all surprising –
On different kinds of word
I’ve been economising!
‘Why’ is a dog … for in Latin it’s ‘cur’;
Why is a cat … always shedding its fur?
Wye is three rivers the UK get round –
Widespread; in Oz., N.Z., Maryland, found;
Y is a letter not terribly straight,
While you find foxes have wiliness great;
Wife is another with devious ways,
Wi-Fi and wifey your peace can erase!
Whydah with pin-tail in Africa lives,
Wine, if too much, whining hangover gives;
Wipe out with whitewash this wild-raving wight!
Wire we reading? Lost contact ker-wite!
