Trustee was a crook: he’d chip funds from the trust,
Till he was found out, and then travel he must;
Before setting sail, this slime went back to burn
What might stand against him … ‘Stay! Bullet you’ll earn
If you move a muscle, abom’nable wretch!’
From up on a charge, he went down for a stretch.
I see you’ve noticed ups and downs this week too!

What a clever poem – form the title to the end of the story you had me pinned to every word 😉

I had fun with the way the story seemed to fall into place! Even the rhyme.

Once again, Col, you’ve worked the words in well! This one really flows along at a nice pace!

I’d have pulled the trigger . . . but then you would not have been able to finish the wordle.

Well, I suppose I could have had the charge behind the bullet going off, and the corpse stretched out!

I didn’t know cameras had triggers, one lives and learns. 🙂

You’re kidding, right. I even have a remote trigger.

No I wasn’t kidding how would I know I’ve never taken any real interest in photography, something quick and simple push a button wham bang thank you ma’am I got me a picture, that’s all I ever do, why would you need a trigger, I know there’s a term shooting pictures/movies whatever but why on earth would I think it involved a trigger???

. . . when you “push the button” (I’m sure you mean press, even if you have never taken photography), you trigger the shutter. Remote triggers are used to, you guessed it, trigger the shutter remotely.
But, I understand your confusion . . . I feel the same way about certain words as they are written in other parts of the world. I mean, I’m not a linguist, and I certainly have no interest in language other than to occasionally use it, but why on earth would I need an extra “u” in perfectly fine words like color and flavor and honor.
I mean, I know it comes from the Brits wanting to emulate the French, but that ship has long ago sailed, so why stick with it?
Still, that’s their “lingo” and who am I to question it? It’s enough that I make fun of it.

It must be fun being simplistic, I might try it some day XD

@ disperser: In proper English, you push buttons. Buttons (at least before the era of touch-sensitivity) move, not just yield in a rubbery way as with pressing. And color, flavor and honor without the ‘u’ should be pronounced ‘coe-lore’ ‘flavvor’ and ‘hoe-nor’ so they are perfectly un-refined with that spelling! 🙂

Oh, I see how it is now! Two against one, eh?
Well, I’ll be obstinate and say that while certainly one could say “push the shutter”, one would not be taking into account usage and convention. Before I hear objections to that statement, usage and convention have always trumped stuffy ole rules about this or that.
Here are some references in the use of “push” and “press” as it relates to camera shutters (see if you can find the word “push” in any of these articles):

Now, I’m sure one can find someone who uses “push”, as in “half-push” the shutter, but trust me, it will read weird. Except, you know, to a few people clinging to misguided rules forged by forgotten people during a time no longer relevant to most everyone. That might sound like an unsubstantiated statement, but I’m drawing heavily from personal experience.
As for pushing buttons, yes, I agree with that terminology since I often engage in the practice.
As far as the extra “u”, understand I have nothing against the Brits wanting to suck up to the French. It’s just that I agree with Jefferson as it being a useless and undignified endeavor.

There are no such people as Brits, they are either English Scottish Irish or Welsh,
Call a Scot, English or Brit you’re likely to be hit with a haggis, same with an Irishman except they’ll hit you with a shillelagh and the Welsh will sing you a song. Four seperate countries four different peoples cobbled together by ignorance for which the rest of the world outside the British Isles is renowned. I prefer John Admas to Mr Jefferson.
