Father’s Day and Grandfather’s Day

Father’s Day last Sunday started with the daughter and two grand-girls bouncing into my bedroom to wake me up with a gift of a lovely bright LED lantern, and two cards from Jeneva as shown. The one, very much her own work, read:

To: The Best Grandfather in the world. Happy
fathers day Les. Thank
you fore being the coolest Les ever.
Thank you for everything you do for
me!. you melt my
heart: from Neevie

HAPPY father’s DAY Les

The other, in Afrikaans, and obviously a class effort at school:

Liewe. Pappa
Gelukkige Vadersdag
Ek is lief vir Pappa
Liefde Neevie

Then we shot up to the Midlands just past Howick and overlooking Howick Falls, at Yellowwood Café, where we had a very good lunch. Much Better Half and I halved and shared dishes as we usually do for greater variety: asparagus pasta, and a cheesy dish with homemade bread, butter, jam and bacon.

Also overlooked were ponies, sheep and zebra, and a donkey gave Jeneva a bitten and bleeding finger in enthusiasm to be fed. She wept. We have warned her about holding her hand flat. No real damage done.

Hi, I’m Shaun!
(So they really do move their mouths like the TV cartoon character!)

Oh, those are lovely cards – they look remarkable similar to the ones that adorn our refrigerator. 🙂 Grandfathers really are very special, I agree!

(Polishing my Afrikaans… Some is not too hard to understand, with a bit of Dutch)
What do you speak at home? English? Afrikaans or both?
(Like here where we speak 3 languages in the same sentence?)
