Still-only-six-year-old R made a brave try at the 1500 metre swimming trial today in cold and rainy weather. The distance was no problem to her, but she just can’t summon up enough speed yet to do it inside the required 40 minutes. Still, her time for the 800 metres was considerably faster than last year, and we were really proud of her attempt.
After doing that swim, she still had the stamina to swim a few more lengths and do the various strokes and tumble turns needed for her Silver Badge.
And, she has officially been selected for her school’s swimming team! The bad news on that one is getting her to three practices a week.
The NaPoWriMo Day 16 prompt is truly sadistic – a terzanelle. This follows this rhyme scheme:
ABA bCB cDC dED eFE fAFA or fFAA
where the upper case shows repeated lines and the lower case rhyming ones. Being constrained by having the last two lines as re-used ones is quite a challenge.
I have taken the form seriously. The subject matter?
Perhaps far less,
For, as you see,
I’m into serious
Flippancy!
Terzanelle and Jane
I’m sure R will get it next time. Being selected for the school team is also great though.
As for your poem, I have no idea how you manage to come up with things like that. It’s literary genius 🙂

I’m sure she will.
That is great, indeed.
Oh, I wouldn’t say that – but I’m glad when others say it for me! 🙂

Congratulations to your R swimming star!! I remember when you showed pics of her when she first started learning to swim. She’s really come a long way since then. 🙂 So happy that Tarzan got his just desserts.

1500 m at 6 years old… very very brave… I have trouble doing that these days… just seems an edge too far… well done to her though…

Thanks – yes, it sure is a long way. I was hoping to do it with her by training but became too unfit with my infected leg. Maybe next year!

Well done that girl.
You must admit that a terzanelle is an economical form, with the repeated lines to save labout!

Not so sure – it takes more time than to multitask them than it would have to write new ones!

It is rather much of an ask for one so young! She loves water, though.
